Deb Torguson • A Portrait Artist

I've been drawing since childhood, with a love for capturing expressions. Whether it's the gaze of a dog or the lines of an old woman, it's the eyes that speak to me. In high school, I spent hours at the Portrait Gallery in DC, fueling my passion for portraiture.

After graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Printmaking, I explored various creative paths, including teaching, art direction, singing, and freelance illustration. I also spent over 35 years in the corporate world, managing graphics for the printing and packaging industry.

In 1981, I founded Collectors Portraits, focusing on pastel and oil portraits, as well as fine art photography. Maintaining a studio for printing photos and prints, I sought a separate space for my pastel work. Finally, after years on a waiting list, I now work in my spacious studio #108 in the Historic Onancock School on the Eastern Shore. I'm excited to return to my fine art roots.
